Why Man Utd have left Rasmus Hojlund & Alejandro Garnacho out of Premier League squad

Manchester United have confirmed their 25-man Premier League squad for the season, locking in the senior players who will be able to play for them in the competition until January. Premier League rules dictate that clubs must have a minimum of eight "home-grown" players among the group of 25. To earn that status, a player doesn't necessarily have to have been produced by United, but they must have been at an FA-affiliated club for at least three years before turning 21. So while Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay were United youth players, the likes of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Mason Mount also qualify as "home-grown" after coming through the ranks of other English clubs – Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Chelsea respectively. By virtue as of the home-grown rule, there is also a limit of 17 players who don't fit that criteria. In this season's 25-man squad, United have a 16-9 split between those who are not home-grown players and those w...

Environmental Protection Agency delays new ozone pollution standards until after the 2024 election

The Environmental Protection Agency is delaying plans to tighten air quality standards for smog despite a recommendation by a scientific advisory panel to lower air pollution limits to protect public health WASHINGTON -- The Environmental Protection Agency is delaying plans to tighten air quality standards for ground-level ozone — better known as smog — despite a recommendation by a scientific advisory panel to lower air pollution limits to protect public health. The decision by EPA Administrator Michael Regan means that one of the agency's most important air quality regulations will not be updated until well after the 2024 presidential election. “I have decided that the best path forward is to initiate a new statutory review of the ozone (standard) and the underlying air quality criteria,'' Regan wrote in a letter to the EPA advisory panel last month. The letter cites “several issues” raised by the panel in a recent report that "warrant additional evaluation and rev...

Four-day workweek, 46% raise: UAW makes 'audacious' demands ahead of possible strike against Big 3 automakers

Image
Automakers Ford, GM and Stellantis have largely rejected the demands of the UAW. A four-day workweek at full-time pay, a 46% wage increase and a share of company profits are among the demands of the union representing approximately 150,000 workers at the Big 3 U.S. automakers -- General Motors, Ford and Stellantis. The United Auto Workers, or UAW, has vowed to launch a strike on Sept. 14 if the union and the automakers fail to reach an agreement by then. Even UAW President Shawn Fain last month described the workers' set of demands as "audacious." He has defended the ambitious agenda in a series of public statements, citing billions in profits enjoyed by the Big 3. The automakers, meanwhile, have largely rejected the demands. Only Ford has presented a contract proposal, offering a 9% wage increase over the term of the contract, plus a one-time payout that brings the total raise to 15%. "Overall, this offer is significantly better than what we estimate workers earn at...

World Superbike: Jonathan Rea to join Yamaha on two-year deal

Image
As reported by Motorsport.com on Saturday, Rea will replace BMW-bound Toprak Razgatlioglu at the factory Yamaha squad next year, partnering incumbent Andrea Locatelli. Rea still had a year left on his contract with Kawasaki, the marque with which he scored all his six titles as well as more than a 100 race wins, but a decline in results in recent years prompted the two parties to mutually agree to an early exit. Yamaha was initially looking for a rider within its ranks to take the place of 2021 champion Razgatlioglu, but it had a change of heart and started searching for a high-profile name that could lead it to championship glory. While other names like BMW’s Scott Redding emerged in the picture, It eventually zeroed in on Rea, who was getting increasingly frustrated with a lack of com Pet itiveness of the Kawasaki ZX-10RR. Eric de Seynes: President & CEO, Yamaha Motor Europe said of the Ulsterman's appointment: “We are very happy to welcome ...
